The New Kitchen!

In February of this year, we embarked upon a journey. A journey that will take us from living in a house with a small closed in stodgy, not enough room for everything kind of kitchen, to a kitchen with an open floor plan, new hardwood flooring, new cabinets, and new appliances.
It is the end of March. Our living room is full of new appliances waiting to be installed, and our garage is full of boxes of cabinets, (delivered on March 29th). My wife commented to our contractor just the other day, that she is so glad the project is almost over. He laughed and replied, that it actually is almost HALF over! Kind of burst her bubble.  It is a royal pain in the ass, living without a kitchen sink, dishwasher, and range.... We still have the refridgerator, except it is in the garage now.
We have removed two walls, removed an exit door out onto the deck. The linoleum floor was taken up in the old kitchen space, as well as the parquet floor I glued down in the dining room space 18 years ago, and new maple hardwood flooring laid down. The electrical circuits for the under-cabinet lighting has been wired in, as well as the circuits for outlets in the new island that will be installed with the new cabinets and for the over the range microwave.

The walls have been mudded, taped, and sanded, and are ready for paint.  Actually there won't be much painting done in the kitchen, since the new cabinets will take up most of the wall space. And the exposed walls between the upper cabinets and the countertops will have a tiled backsplash, so no paint there either.
Now, when you enter our home, and take the stairs up to the livingroom/kitchen area, what meets the eye is a larg open space that will soon be filled with cabinets, an island, new appliances, and a much more effeciant roomy organized kitchen that will be a great space to prepare meals and entertain friends and family!!!
We all will be so glad to be done with fast food and eating PF Chang frozen chinese dinners out of an electric skillet. and doing cleanup/washing dishes out of a 12" x 12" sink in our wet bar downstairs in the family room...........Remember what they say, "no pain, no gain".
