My father-in-law, Jim, is holding his own, against advancing lung cancer. Diagnosed in early June 2008, with the disease metastasized to the brain, he is doing reasonably well.
Ten days of radiation, targeting the tumor in his brain, successfully shrunk the tumor enough, that his doctors decided that he would not need to undergo a "gamma knife" radiation treatment.
He began intravenous chemo therapy about 3 weeks ago. It hit him pretty hard. He is a remarkably strong and healthy octogenarian, (prior to the cancer), but the chemo adversely affected his kidneys. So, the treatment was halted, and a switch was made to an oral medication instead.
My brother-in-law Mark, took Jim to Wallgreens the other day, to get the first month supply of the chemo pills, to be taken one a day..... the bill for the 30 tablets...$4,000.00!!!
Even after insurance and medicare, Jim's bill was $1000.00. The cost is outrageous! Thank God they have pretty good health insurance.
Think of the millions of fellow citizens who have no health insurance!
We continue to pray for Jim as he fights this terminal disease.

imagine if the US spent just a fraction of the billions it spends on the military on public health care. I think its way past time for national health care in the US
A MEN! It is horrible that meds can cost that much... makes my $150 plavix seem like chump change!
