MOVIN ON UP, TO THE NORTH SIDE

Another milestone reached at our house. On Sept 13th, our eldest son Kyle moved away from home.
Away from home, as in "on his own". He had moved from his apartment here in town, where he resided since his freshman year at ISU, back home. Just for the summer, so he could work two jobs and stash cash for his move to the big city, Chicago to be exact.
So, it was on Saturday, the 13th, we loaded a U-Haul truck with his possessions, and amidst a monsoon that lasted the entire weekend, we lumbered northward to Chi-town. It was an experience on many levels.
For his mother and me, it was more emotional than I expected. He's only 2.5 hours north, but he is definitely on his own. He decided he would not have a car. The city is no place to own a car, unless you have plenty of disposable income....which he doesn't. His apartment is just north of the downtown loop. About a mile ease of Loyola University, and 3 blocks west of Lakeshore Drive, and Hollywood beach on Lake Michigan. The building is a lovely older apartment house, (see picture above), in a neighborhood lined with apartment houses dating back to the 30's and 40's. Lots of hardwood floors, and crown moulding. Some very lovely buildings..... and very limited parking!!!
Only gone a week, and we miss him a lot! He has already secured a job as a bartender at a restaurant downtown, on Lincoln Ave. Cy's Steak & Chop House. And, he intends on seeking auditions at various theaters in the city, and get involved in a production as soon as he can!
I remember when I moved from home, at the age of 19. From a small Iowa town, (Marshalltown), to Minneapolis. It was quite an adventure!
We hope that Kyle has great success in this next chapter of his life!

nice first home. I lived in squalor in my first adventure away from home.

I wish him well in his search for fame, fortune and finery.
