Every day, the economic news seems to get a little more grim. For millions of Americans, what used to be the "good life" is rapidly becoming the drudgery of just trying to make it through another week, keeping food on the table and a roof over your family's head. And the speed which this has spread through our society, fairly takes your breath away.
If your lifestyle was one of living beyond your means, with lots of toys, high credit card debt, and being house poor with a mortgage payment as heavy as the Rock of Gibraltar, it is going to be a long night indeed.
Are we like the ill fated Titanic, with a fatal flaw in the fabric of our economy, that will cause us to sink forever into ruin? Or,will our fabled "Yankee ingenuity" shine through, and enable us to overcome our own weaknesses and shortcomings, and find opportunity in adversity?
Personally, I believe that most of us will persevere. If only our government will be able to rise above it's own partisan pettiness, and avarice, we might just have a good chance of emerging better than we were.
