NEW TRICKS FOR AN OLD DOG!

I've been computing for quite a few years, and I consider myself just a few notches above mediocre. My younger brother Marty is light years beyond my capabilities. However, I've been able to manage OK..... until recently. My Dell lost Internet connectivity about 2 weeks ago. I spent considerable time with Verizon, who determined that the old modem I've had for about 4 years was passe. They provided an updated version, which was supposed to solve the problem, or NOT!
Problem persisted. Could not acquire an IP address from my computer. Next step was to spend more time with Verizon, and after many attempts at work arounds, their opinion was my network card was fermisched. Step 3 was to contact Dell. I spent considerable phone time with Saahill, and after many attempts at the same work arounds previously tried, was told that I needed to reformat the hard drive. WHOA! Really intimidating words. Step 4, I took the pc to a local business that specializes in servicing and selling computers and accessories, etc. They worked on it for an hour or so, (pro bono), and their pronouncement was the same... software problem, reformat hard drive.
Now, this is a 7 year old Dell. I hated the thought of reinstalling 7 year old software and having to go thru updates, etc. Step 4, made the decision, (with much input from my wife and eldest son), to make the investment in a new computer....... Ended up purchasing a new Mac. It is a wickedly beautiful machine, with a 20" monitor with a super fast beast, with a 2.66 GHz Core Duo processor and 2GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM of memory... Wow!
It's just too dammed bad I don't know shit about Macs!!
I'm learning, albeit slowly!

Good for you - reformatting a hard drive is NEVER a solution and is usually the first resort of fools.

MACs are fun and easy to use. Windoze sucks.

And I'm only lightyears ahead because I spent years in university.
