THE DREAM LIVES ON!

Our eldest son Kyle graduated from ISU in May of 08, with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Theater Acting.
It has been his passion, since middle school. When his mother and I think back, it is clear that the signs were there all along. A gregarious personality, an unstoppable optimism, and an unshakable belief and confidence in himself.... all the right ingredients.
In September of 08, we moved him to downtown Chicago, near north side, (see my post dated 9/21/08). Since that time, he has had ups and downs to be sure. The current economic conditions have not helped. The job he had tending bar in a restaurant, ended when the joint shuttered it's doors without so much as a phone call, and stiffed him on his pay to boot! No matter, Mr. "glass half full" immediately set out to seek employment, and snagged another job in fairly short order. He has also been busy all this time, trying to break into the theater scene, and this week he has realized some success there as well! Navy Pier in Chicago, for those of you who don't know, is a great attraction downtown right on the lake. There are many activities that go on year round at the pier. It is a major tourist attraction. This summer, they have an outdoor production, in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean. Kyle auditioned, when through 3 call-backs, drug testing, finger printing/background check, and was accepted as one of the characters in this summer's production. Meet 'Barnacle Bob'. Kyle is understudy for the fellow who is playing this character. He will fill in for him while he is on vacation, and will be paid for all rehearsal time as well as performance time...... FINALLY, KYLE'S FIRST PAYING JOB AS AN ACTOR! It also has the potential to open some doors for him, and create possible opportunities. BRAVO to Kyle! Break a leg!

YAY FOR ME!!!! hah! Today was the first Rehearsal and I had SO much fun. I honestly think I would be pretty content here for a while if things really play out like they seem to be heading! By the way though, the show is indoors in the main lobby of the Pier on the Family Pavilion Stage. It will make for more shows through the summer because we don't have to worry about weather!
