On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we took our traditional trip out to WoodTree Farm. Its a tree farm located in Central Illinois, approx 20 miles from our home. It was a beautiful day for tree hunting, with a light snowfall. Very picturesque.
We've been cutting down our own Christmas trees with our boys, for many years, and visiting the WoodTree Farm for probably 8 to 10 of those. In years past, we would make a day of it with another family who we've been very close with, since the boys were babies. However, now their boys are pretty much grown up, like our two, as you can see from the picture. Both of our guys are in college. Kyle on the left is a Senior (Theater Major), and Cameron on the right is a freshman (Music Education-Vocal).
Our friends have 3 boys, two of them college students as well. Not as easy to get together as it used to be. And, if that isn't bad enough, this year will be the last season for WoodTree Farm.
The owner was killed this past summer. He was on his tractor mowing, out on his property, (they have a lovely farm of several hundred acres of rolling tree covered hills, timber and a pond.), the tractor tipped over, pinning him beneath it, at the edge of the pond. He was submerged, and drowned.....what a shame.
So, a family tradition is slowly changing, as our lives begin a new chapter, leaving us with fond memories, and looking forward to new ones next year!
