It has been almost 18 months since my last post.... I was released to return to work, last May 13th, after my April 1st hip replacement surgery. Fast forward to September 2nd, 2015. Still working at Mechanical Devices Co., but not full time! Many of the employees, (including yours truly), have been on 4-day work weeks, since April of 2015. But that isn't the end of it. The factory is scheduled to be down 2 weeks in Sept., 1one week in Oct., and 2 weeks in both Nov., & Dec.
The same factors that are currently adversely affecting the stock market, are the same factors that are driving our business down. It's all about China's shrinking economy, and dropping commodity prices. For example, Currently, it is not economical (no profit), to drill a new oil well, and it nearly costs more to mine copper, than it is worth! Who would have thought??
I'll turn 66 in February 2016, and if I'm still working at MDC at that time it would be good. I would like to continue working at least two more years. Hopefully business will turn around in the coming months, otherwise I am destined to start utilizing my Social Security benefits once I turn 66. Oh by the way, I'm now officially in senior country.
